India deploys Israeli equipment to suppress Freedom Struggle
Pakistan Times Kashmir Desk

JAMMU: Indian army has deployed Israeli equipment to suppress the freedom movement in occupied Kashmir and thermal imaging cameras are part of them that have been under use for tracking down movements of freedom activists in Poonch and Rajouri districts.

Thermal Imaging Cameras

The thermal imaging cameras with a range of up to two and a half miles have been under use in Rajouri and Poonch districts west of Jammu for the past six months.

Indo-Israel Nexus

Ties between Israel and India have been steadily increasing ever since relations between the two countries were established 12 years ago, with Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon paying an official visit to India in September.

Trade between the two countries reached a level of 1.25 billion dollars last year, after a modest beginning in 1991 with only 200 million dollars. Israel and India have signed the largest military deal in the history of Israel's defence industries.

The deal, worth 1.2 billion dollars, will see Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI) provide spy-and-early-warning Phalcon system to India.

Israeli Army Chief likely to visit India next month

Sources from New Delhi revealed that Israeli army Chief Lt Gen Moshe Dallaan is likely to visit India early next month to discuss ways of beefing up cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries.

Dallaan's visit comes two months after the first ever visit by Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon to India in September last.

Joint Exercices

Quoting highly placed army sources, a news report said during his talks here, the two countries would work out a schedule of joint exercises between the armies of the two countries.

A high-level Israeli armed forces delegation is already in the capital and holding talks with its Indian counterpart on working out the schedule of Dallaan's visit as also supply of sophisticated armaments like sensors, unmanned aerial vehicles and specialized small arms to India.

The delegation held talks with the Vice Chief of the Army Staff Lt Gen Shantanu Chowdhary as well as top Naval and IAF top brass, added the report.

AWACS Deals

Pakistan as well as Islamic world have already voiced their deep concerns over the growing cooperation in defence sector between India and Israel and inking of multi billion dollars deal of Phalcon (AWACS), to be supplied by Tel Aviv to New Delhi.

This development, another report observed, would not only disturb the balance in the South Asian region but would also unleash the arms race, marring the peace stability of the region.
