KARACHI: The Pakistan
Rangers, Sindh, seized 6000 kg betel nuts from two Karachi
bound coaches at Hub check post, Baluchistan, 30 km off here.
According to an announcement
of Rangers here Tuesday, the seizure took place on November
15. The coaches with registration number QAH-9798 and AJ-5823,
were coming from Quetta.
The drivers of the coaches
Akhtar Mohammed s/o Abdul Mannan and Abdul Khalique s/o Jan
Mohammed were arrested. The drivers said that the coaches were
owned by alleged smuggler Haji Juma Khan who was also general
secretary of the Transport Association.
According to the Rangers,
the alleged transporter also arranged a protest at Hub Chowki
and demanded that the buses may not be checked at the post.
The Rangers also seized 25
cartons of soap, 130 boxes of cigarette from another coach
number QAJ -9796 on Nov 15 at the same place. An FIR 129/2003
under Customs Act 156/89 has also been registered.
