KARACHI: Rice exporters
will establish a seed processing mill in Larkana to produce
good quality rice seed in the province to boost country's
exports.
This was stated by the
former chairman Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP)
Abdul Rahim Janoo here Wednesday. He was of the opinion that
good quality rice seed will increase the yield and produce
good quality rice for exports.
He said that the supreme
council of REAP and Sindh Balochistan Rice Millers and Traders
Association (SBRMTA) in a meeting held here Tuesday have
decided to set up a quality seed corporation in this regard.
He said that president
SBRMTA Gada Hussain Mahesar has agreed with the REAP that
there was a need for a quality seed corporation in the
country to produce better quality rice. The proposed
corporation with five members each from REAP and SBRMTA, will
ensure that right quality seeds of basmati and IRRI-6 and
IRRI-9 are supplied to growers at commercial rates. Janoo said
that all rice growers, millers, traders and exporters will get
together at Larkana on the invitation of SBRMTA and visit
various rice growing areas in the district.
Praising the support and
cooperation of president SBRMTA Gada Husain Mahesar, he said
that his (Mahesar) valuable advises on various varieties of
rice in Sindh has helped in the production of better quality
of rice for export purposes. Janoo said that 18 varieties of
rice, including eight of basmati and 10 of IRRI are available
for growers in Sindh. This is for the first time that such a
wide choice of rice varieties is available for exporters in
the province.
