Peoples Party rejects 'Khar Formula'
Pakistan Times Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: The Vice Chairman, Pakistan Peoples Party, Makhdoom Amin Fahim, Thursday rejected the Khar Formula on 'power sharing'.

A statement, issued by Fahim in Islamabad Thursday said: "Press reports about the so-called formula for political reconciliation advanced by Ghulam Mustafa Khar create the misperception as if the formula has the blessings of the PPP or of Ms Benazir Bhutto.

"Although I had rebutted the formula the very next day but the persistence of press reports demands that a formal policy statement is also issued to put the record straight.

"Neither PPP nor its Chairperson Ms Benazir Bhutto has anything to do with Mr. Khar's suggestions. The so-called formula is a figment of Mr. Khar's own imagination and may have been designed to advance his personal political ambitions. It has nothing to do with do with the principled position of the Pakistan Peoples Party which is too well known to bear repetition."

"It is most unfortunate that Mr. Khar himself chose to speak about the political situation after a meeting Ms Bhutto to give the impression as if what he was saying was with her blessings and approval."

"The PPP has been and continues to oppose so-called sharing of political power as suggested by Mr. Khar. "The PPP also believes that those who have subverted the Constitution and their accomplices must all be held accountable. With such clear-cut policy position, where is the room for political power sharing as suggested by Mr. Khar?

"The PPP will continue to fight for democracy, restoration of the Constitution. It believes that as a result of the peoples struggle the long night of 'dictatorship' will soon be over", he remarked.
