One km Area along Pak-Afghan Border to be Vacated
By Zulf Khan Afridi - Pakistan Times Staff Correspondent

PESHAWAR: The government has decided to vacate one kilo meter area along the Pak-Afghan border at Torkham in order to provide facilities to the Customs and other government agencies.

The decision was taken to provide parking for the vehicles of Customs and Immigration Departments and to construct a monument in the area.

Private property is very much close to the Pak-Afghan border and the Customs and Immigration departments are facing several problems as there are no proper arrangements for parking to check the vehicles in a smooth way.

During his visit to the area on Friday, Governor of NWFP Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah appealed to local tribesmen to cooperate with the government on this measure.

The Governor said that the activity would help boost the economy of the area. He said that the government would try its best to compensate if some infrastructure was demolished during the process.
