LAHORE: Pakistan cricket
selectors Saturday accepted a request from paceman Junaid Zia
and pulled him out from the Pakistan team for the five-match
one-day international series against New Zealand to be played
between November 29 and December 7.
Junaid's place was awarded
to Umar Gul who had been initially selected in the Pakistan A
team for the Indian tri-nation one-day series also involving
Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, said a spokesman of the Pakistan
Cricket Board here Saturday.
It has been told that Junaid,
son of Pakistan Cricket Board Chief Lt Gen Tauqir Zia,
requested the selectors that he may be relieved from the
one-day series so that he could appear in his academic
examinations.
The 19 years-old right arm
medium fast bowler has taken only three wickets at an average
of 42.33 in his four previous ODIs with best figure of 3-21.
He now replaces Umar Gul in Pakistan A squad for the December
13 to 21 Indian series.
