Two Journalists Shot Dead in Karachi

KARACHI: Two local journalists were killed in separate incidents in the city Saturday.

According to police sources, Mohammad Yousuf, a correspondent of daily Special was shot dead of unknown dacoits, who entered his house in Kalakot, Lyari area early hours of Saturday morning.

In another incident Abdul Hafeez of daily Difaa was killed by unknown assailants in Chanesar Goth, Mehmoodabad Saturday afternoon. Police have registered both the cases.

FC Officer hurt in Landmine Blast

Meanwhile in Quetta, two people, including a lieutenant colonel of Frontier Corps (FC), were wounded in a landmine explosion in Lunjo Segharipat area of Sui Tehsil, some 343 kilometres off here, on Saturday.

Reports said that Lt Col Moeen Qadir, commandant Bambor Rifle of FC, was on his way to office when his vehicle ran over a landmine that exploded with a big bang.

The injured were admitted to a hospital, where the condition of Lt Col Moeen Qadir was stated to be serious. Senior officials of the FC and administration rushed to the spot and started probe into the episode.

Nine injured in clash over land Dispute

In Khanpur, nine persons were injured in a clash between two groups of Ghalija and Chandia tribes at Muza Chanida over land dispute on Saturday.

Reportedly, a land dispute was going on between Allah Jivaia Baloch and Abdul Karim Chaudhry. Alla Jivaia had possession of the disputed 25 Kanals of land while Abdul Karim Ch. had given the power of attorney of the land to one Fayyaz Ahmed Ghalija, who transferred the land to his relative Karim Bakhsh.

Karim Bakhsh along with his companions went to the disputed land to take possession which was resisted by Allah Jivaia and his men. As a result a clash took place between both the groups. Nine persons from both sides were wounded and they were shifted to DHQ hospital here.

The injured were identified as Bashir Ahmed, Fayyaz, Jameel, Hafiz Bashir Ayyaz, Shabbar Irshad, Ghulam Qasim, Ibrahim, Akmal and Farooq Ghalcha. Saddar police have registered a case and started investigations.

Two arrested for Murdering five of a Family


While in Multan, local police arrested two more accused on Saturday, one for his alleged involvement in murder of five members of a family on Friday, and the other for providing him shelter.

Muhammad Saleem, one of the three sons of accused Bashir and another person Mazhar alias Mazhari were arrested on Saturday, DSP Traffic Sharif Zafar, also holding additional charge of Sadar circle as DSP told newsmen.

Saleem was a nominated accused of the case while Mazhar was arrested for providing him shelter after the tragic killing of five members of a family at Moza Matti Tal on Friday. Muhammad Sardar (85), his son Muhammad Hanif (45), Hanif's wife Hashmat Mai (45), his teenage daughter Aasia (18) and another teenage relative Shamim (17) were killed by Hanif's brother Bashir, his three sons and accomplices on Friday over a property dispute and the differences over marriage of Hanif's two daughters including the deceased Aasia.

Accused Nawaz Haraj is already in police custody. Aasia (18) was murdered only a day before her marriage while her sister Sajida, whose marriage was also scheduled for Saturday (today), was among the three injured who were hospitalized.

Meanwhile, DPO Multan Hamid Mukhtar Gondal has formed two teams to investigate this incident and another at Basti Malook area in which two were killed and as many injured Wednesday last, the first Eid day.
