Settlement between MMA-Govt Must for sustainable democracy: Leghari
Pakistan Times Punjab Bureau Report

LAHORE: The ex-President and head of Millat Party Sardar Farooq Ahmad Khan Leghari Sunday hoped that Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) and the government would soon develop understanding on LFO.

"It is our desire that the crisis should end as early as possible as the same was imperative for strengthening the system and for sustainable democracy in the country", Leghari said while addressing a gathering of party workers at Fazilpur, a town near district DG Khan.

"MMA and government should reach an understanding in the interest of the country." He asked the opposition to act in a way that does not hinder the process of development in the country for peoples' welfare.

Accuses PPP-PML [N]

Leghari criticized the alleged plundering of resources during the regimes of Nawaz Sharif and Benazir Bhutto and held them responsible for the poverty and unemployment in the country that he said has doubled during last fourteen years.

Millat Party strongly supports accountability of corrupt elements and this process should continue unhindered, he said. On agriculture, he said, 45 per cent irrigation water go waste every year. He said, country has a total of 135,000 water channels adding: "We can save this water by brick-lining water channels." "We can save enormous quantity of water even if we brick-line some 25000 water channels per year", he added.

This would provide earning opportunities to some 2 million labourers besides contributing in national economic growth, he added.
