Pakistani contingent awarded UN Medals

FREE TOWN (Sierra Leone): An investiture ceremony was held at the Pakistan Army Contingent Headquarters to award UN medals to Pakistan troops working under the aegis of United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone.

Officer In charge UNAMSIL Mr Allan Doss was the chief guest. A smartly turned out battalion of Pakistan Army presented the guard of honour to the chief guest on arrival at the parade venue.

Later he adorned Pakistani troops with UN medals.

Pak Troops efforts Lauded

Addressing the ceremony, the Chief Guest appreciated the efforts of Pakistani troops in peacekeeping providing relief and performing rehabilitation task to mitigate the sufferings of the people of Sierra Leone.

He said the UN medals awarded to them in this ceremony were a symbol of manifestation filled with admiration by the people of Sierra Leone and the UN to recognize their selfless services towards humanity.

Commending the rebuilding and restoration duties of the Pak blue berets, the chief guest said that despite of stressful, arduous and demanding environments, the Pakistan Army Contingent delivered very positive results.

It was only because of their professional skill, acumen and devotion to duty that UN Peace-Keeping Force had been able to operate smoothly, he added.

Ceremony

The ceremony was attended by the UN Force Commander Major General Sajjad Akram, Commander Pakistan Contingent, Brig Sajjad Ahmed Bakhshi, and a large number of civil and military officials of the UN Mission in Sierra Leone.

A cultural show was arranged for the guests after the investiture ceremony which included traditional Pakistani folk songs.
