KARACHI: The PTCL
authorities have unearthed a mini-international gateway
exchange which caused a loss of Rs 90 million to exchequer
since its establishment in July 2003.
The illegal exchange was set
up in Room Number 1513, 15th floor of Scissor Tower on Sharae-Faisal.
The raid was conducted jointly by the officials of PTCL, the
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and senior officers
of Saddar Police.
The police also arrested a
person identified as Nadeem Saleem. He disclosed that the
exchange was being run with 7 cellular phones and the DSL
connection was obtained from a local ISP.
Other equipments recovered
during the raid included Quantum Gateway Switch, Server, CPU,
and 9 sims.

Monday said that the firm alleged behind this illegal business
was M/s Ahmed & Ahmed Communications which had also networks
in Lahore and Islamabad.
The arrested person
disclosed that Khushi Mohammed was the owner of the company
and he was in Islamabad at present. Moreover, one of the
members of the gang, Yasir had gone to open office in Peshawar
while another accused Asif was absconding. The PTCL did not
mention the time, date or day when the raid was conducted.
