KARACHI: The estimates
of losses caused by the grounding of oil tanker Tasman Spirit
and subsequent oil spillage will be finalised soon.
This was stated by Advisor to Chief Minister for Environment,
Faisal Malik, at a briefing here on Thursday. He said the
losses caused to affected residents, fishermen and persons
doing small business at the coast will also be determined so
as to present the total losses at a seminar to be held in mid
February.
The Advisor called for accelerated efforts by national
institutions for determining the loss estimates caused by the
grounding of Tasman Sprit.
He said detailed estimates
should be worked out alongwith the impact of the incident
besides medical, social and economic losses as well as the
losses suffered by unemploying fishermen and their families.
The participants of the briefing assured the Advisor to
present the loss estimates and a complete inquiry report about
the incident very soon.
