Security High as Kashmir observes India Republic Day as 'Black Day'
Pakistan Times Kashmir Desk

SRINAGAR (Indian Held-Kashmir): Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control and elsewhere in the world will observe Indian Republic Day today (Monday) as Black Day in response to call by the All Parties Hurriyat Conference.

The Black Day will be marked by a complete strike in occupied Kashmir bringing life to a standstill. All government and semi-government offices, shops, banks, schools, courts and business centres will remain closed and traffic off the road.

Various functions will be organised and rallies held in occupied Kashmir and Azad Kashmir to renew the resolve that the liberation struggle will continue till the goal of right to self determination is achieved.

In a statement in Srinagar today, APHC Information Secretary, Ayaz Muhammad Akbar said that objective of observing the day as Black Day is to show the world practically that Kashmiris will never yield to Indian subjugation.

In separate statements, Democratic Freedom Party Chief, Shabbir Ahmad Shah and Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Peoples League, Ghulam Qadir Hagroo also urged upon Kashmiris to stay indoor on the day.

Meanwhile, security has been further intensified all across occupied Kashmir on the eve of the Republic Day. The troops on the pretext of security measures are conducting house-to-house searches, frisking people and subjecting Kashmiris to torture and harassment.

Security on Red Alert in IHK

Red alert has been sounded and security further intensified in the held Valley and Jammu region on the eve of Indian Republic Day on Monday.

The Indian troops have begun frisking of passengers and checking of almost all vehicles at 100 spots in Srinagar only. All major roads and square leading to the Bakhshi stadium which is venue for the Republic Day celebrations have been cordoned. Security apparatus has been upgraded around all major installations including Secretariat, puppet Assembly and residence of puppet Chief Minister.

The troops have established more barricades and increased patrolling on roads leading to army camps. More troops have been deployed in Solina, Haft Chinar, Aloochi Bagh, Sarai Bala, Magarmal Bagh, Wazir Bagh and Tulsi Bagh, areas adjacent to the stadium.

An unprecedented security blanket has been thrown over Jammu particularly the Maulana Azad Stadium where main celebrations regarding Republic Day are to be held. Indian troops have taken position on top of high buildings near the venue. Bulletproof bunkers have been established and movement restricted in the premises.

The troops on the pretext of security arrangements were harassing and torturing innocent civilians. During crackdowns and search operations residents are being forced to remain outside their houses in extreme cold and identity parades of youth are being conducted. During the operations the troops disgrace women and torture the aged.
