ISLAMABAD: Four UN
agencies including UNDP, UNICEF, WFP, FPA will provide $431
million for five years to improve health, education, poverty
alleviation and public service delivery in Pakistan.
The four agreements were separately singed here Tuesday at
Economic Affair Division. From Pakistan's side Secretary
Economic Affair Dr. Waqar Masood while the country
representative of each UN agencies signed the agreements.
Federal Minister for Fiance Shuakat Aziz also witnessed the
signing ceremony and acknowledged the UN agencies' cooperation
for poverty reduction, to improve reproductive health,
education and access to justice.
By finalizing the Action Plans, UNDP, UNFPA, UNICEF and WFP
have operationalized their country programmes and have legally
established commitments of technical assistance and resources.
The CPAPs of all four agencies are in the context of the UN
Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF), which was approved
by the Government in 2003.
Furthermore, UNDP, UNFPA, UNICEF and WFP will undertake
development work worth US $ 431 million during the period
2004-2008 under the Country Programme Action Plans.
