KARACHI: Vast potential
existed for increasing export of Pakistani textile goods to a
leading US retail company J C Penny from existing $ 50 million
to $ 200 million.
Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) said Tuesday, this has been
stated by the vice president (Sourcing) J C Penney, Rodney
Birkins during a recent visit to Karachi.
J C Penney delegation of sourcing officials had visited
Karachi from January-25 to 30 this year to evaluate potential
of Pakistani textile and apparel industry for supplying goods
to leading US chain stores.
The delegation visited textile garments factories and held
matchmaking meetings with leading textile exporters from
knitwear, woven garments and home textile sectors.
The nine-member delegation had three directors and several
managers dealing with knitwear, woven fabric and home textile
divisions of J C Penney.
As EPB says, Birkins was very impressed with the quality of
products (samples) shown to him by Pakistani exporters during
his visit and termed those meetings very fruitful.
Birkins had pointed out that post quota regime would be better
for Pakistani textile exports as far as US market was
concerned as Pakistani products would get an additional share.
In addition, US retailers will be benefited.
