TEHRAN (Iran): Prime
Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali on Tuesday said that the
emphasis of the D-8 Summit would be on enhancing multilateral
ties besides the promotion of ideology based on enlightened
moderation.
Talking to pressmen on his arrival at the Mehrabad
International airport, the Prime Minister said that Pakistan
would give importance to enhancing relations in different
fields with all member states in the fold of D-8.
He said that the need of the hour was promotion of economic
and trade activity and the D-8 forum is the best suited for
the purpose.
Economic Issues
Earlier, speaking to newsmen at Quaid-e-Azam airport in
Karachi, the Prime Minister said that the main focus of
deliberations during the D-8 Summit would be on economic
issues.
The Premier said at the D-8 Summit mainly economic issues are
taken up.
Participants
Some of the ECO countries like Pakistan, Iran and Turkey are
also attending the D-8 moot. He pointed out that these days
mainly economic matters are deliberated upon.
When asked whether he would be discussing some specific
issues, he replied that with Iran we would be discussing
matters such as those of trade, gas and electricity.
The Premier said he had discussed such issues during the last
meeting and he would also be following these up this time as
well. He stated that matters would also be discussed in the
light of Tehran Declaration that has been prepared at the
moot.
Pakistan-Iran-India gas Pipeline
To a question about Pakistan-Iran-India gas pipeline project,
Prime Minister Jamali said he had asked Indian Prime Minister
Atal Behari Vajpayee at the last month's SAARC Summit that New
Delhi should make up its mind regarding the gas pipeline from
Iran or Turkmenistan and then let us know so that Pakistan and
Iran could conclude an agreement for starting the gas project.
Arrival in Tehran
Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali has arrived Tehran
to attend the D-8 Summit.
At the Meharabad International airport, the Pakistani Premier
was accorded warm welcome by the Iranian Minister for Road and
Transport Ahmad Kharram. Pakistan Minister for Privatization
and Investment Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, Ambassador Iqbal Ahmad
Khan and other Senior officials of Iran and Pakistan were also
present on the occasion.
The Prime Minister, and his entourage comprising MNAs Dewan
Jafar Hussain Bukhari and Rai Azizullah Khan were drove to
Hafoziyeh complex.
