ISLAMABAD: The annual
meeting of the Ulema and Mashaikh from across the country will
be held in the Convention Centre here today (Wednesday).
The religious leaders of all schools of thoughts and from
every nook and corner of the country will participate in the
day long meeting.
President General Pervez Musharraf who will be chairing the
meeting will ask the religious scholars of the country to shun
their differences and join hands with government in
eradicating sectarianism and religious extremism from the
country.
The President will also use the day as an opportunity to take
the members of the right wing of the country on issues like
debriefing of the nuclear scientists and normalization of ties
with India.
The religious hardliners at times were thought to be the main
opponents of the policies of social reforms of the President
as he declared to assist United States after it launched major
assault against Taliban and Al-Qaeda in neighbouring
Afghanistan.
The situation, however, has been changed manifolds after the
patch up between the alliance of six religio-political parties
Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) and the government.
The meeting is being held at the important junction as
Islamabad is busy in composite dialogue process with New
Delhi.
