Punjab CM announces uplift package for Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI: Chief Minister Punjab Ch Pervaiz Elahi on Sunday announced a comprehensive development package worth hundreds of millions of rupees for various projects in Rawalpindi.

Addressing a big public meeting here, the Chief Minister declared Kalar Syedan the Seventh tehsil of Rawalpindi district.

Grants

The Chief Minister said a special grant of Rs. 200 million has been allocated for development work in Rawalpindi tehsil.

Another special grant of Rs. 50 million will be spent on provision of water to civilian population living in cantonment area of Rawalpindi, he said adding the incomplete water supply schemes of the cantonment will also be revived.

The Chief Minister announced construction of 50 filtration plants for provision of clean drinking water to the people.

Overhead Bridge, Underpass

The Chief Minister said work on the Rs 300 million Committee Chowk underpass project will begin next month to remove traffic congestion at Murree Road.

Overhead bridges will also be built at the Murree Road to ease the flow of traffic.

Schools' Up gradation

The Chief Minister announced upgrading of several schools and colleges of Rawalpindi tehsil to secondary, higher secondary and degree level. He said 600 teachers will be appointed besides provision of facilities like new science laboratories and furniture in schools of the tehsil.

He said the Tehsil Municipal building in Kohati Bazaar will be converted to an information technology institute for girls. He said, at a cost of Rs 60 million a new park and club will be built in Rawalpindi.

Other Projects


The Chief Minister said a beautiful city with the name of New Murree is being planned.

The Chief Minister earlier inaugurated the project for remodelling and widening of Kalma Chowk, former Kalamabad Chowk. The project will be completed in five months at a cost of Rs. 85 million.
