Two bombs went off on a railway track in Nawabshah

NAWABSHAH: Two bombs went off one after another on a Railway line in Nawabshah, which severely damaged the railway tracks, reports said.

The traffic flow of trains was suspended until the repairing work on the railroad is done.

At least three persons including two police officials were injured in two consecutive powerful blasts occurred at the main railway track near Nawabshah railway station Monday evening.

Railway and police sources say, two consecutive blasts rocked the railway tracked and two pieces of track measuring about 1.5 feet each were blown off by the blasts at about 2 kilometer away from the railway station at up side outer signal.

The First Blast


The first blast occurred on up-track 8.16 p.m. where a Kotri-Paideedan passenger train was arriving, but was signalled to stop a few hundred meters near the first blast. The second blast occurred on down track near the first blast at 20.55 p.m. which also blew off a piece of track measuring about 1.5 feet.

Police officials who rushed to blast site, two of them became the victims of the second blast were seriously injured. DSP Gul Mohammad Phul sustained multiple injuries, while Police Constable (PC) Nasir Hussain lost his both legs.

Third victim of the blast was a local newspaper reporter Azizul Hassan, who also received injuries.

The District Police Officer (DPO), Nawabshah Dr. Ghulam Sarwar Jamali when contacted told 'Pakistan Times' that both the blasts aimed at targeting Lahore-bound Karakorram Express which crossed the blast site 20-minute earlier and the Passenger train which was stopped due to first blast near the blast, while third train 312 Passenger train, heading for Kotri was stopped at Nawabshah Station.

Area Cordoned Off

Police have cordoned off the entire area on suspicion of any other blast and have mounted search of the track.

Station Master Amani Malik said that on hearing the sound of the first blast passenger train 312 was immediately stopped at the station and saved from any disaster.●
