Azad Kashmir PAC appreciates Electricity Deptt's performance

MUZAFFARABAD: The AJK Public Accounts Committee has appreciated the good performance of Electricity department with the direction to the AJK government to move a case for awarding to the Electricity department officials to encourage them.

The meeting was chaired by chairman Sardar Tahir Anwar held here on Wednesday.

The AJK PAC scrutinized the record of the electricity department and termed it satisfactory. The PAC observed that the AJK Electricity department has recovered Rs.96.215 million and deposited it in the government treasury, more the audit objections of Rs. 1.9 billion have also been finalized.

The PAC meeting was attended besides others concerned senior officials of the AJK Electricity department, members Khan Abdul Waheed Khan, Sardar Ghulam Sadiq and Mrs. Nourin Arif.

The committee also okayed the stand of Electricity department regarding the purchase of eight vehicles of Rs.2.4 million. About the line of losses of Rs.76.9 million in different districts of AJK during the year 2000-2001, the department stance was that a comprehensive programme has been made to over come the problems like the line losses as the internal audit system was also being made regular.

The Secretary Electricity department Sardar Altaf Khan told the meeting that billing system was being totally computerized as 500 more employees were appointed to enhance the performance of the department adding in coming three years the total population of AJK would be enjoying 100 % electricity facilities.

He also told the PAC that Asian Development Bank has provided Rs. 1.50 billion to Electricity department for the development of this department saying in coming some years the performance of this department would be exemplary. All the members of the AJK PAC appreciated the over all performance and of the electricity department.

The Chairman of the committee directed the department that the list of all the appointments and promotion made in the Hydel Electric Board should be presented in the PAC meeting.●
