SRINAGAR: In occupied
Kashmir, total strike will be observed tomorrow (Wednesday) on the occasion
of Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh's visit. The All Parties Hurriyat
Conference has given call for the strike.
All business establishments, offices, education intuitions, banks and courts
will remain closed and transport off the road.
The APHC issued a statement after meeting of its constituents in Srinagar
today, which said, the strike is intended to convey to the world that
Kashmiris want peaceful settlement of Kashmir dispute. The APHC Chairman,
Syed Ali Gilani presided over the meeting.
The statement added that Kashmiris will welcome Indian leaders only when
India accepts to resolve Kashmir dispute, through peaceful process of talks,
participated by India, Pakistan and genuine leadership of Kashmir.
Mir Waiz urges political package for Kashmir
The Chairman of the Awami Action Committee, Mir Waiz Umar Farooq has said,
Kashmiris expect the Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh to show he is
serious about resolving the Kashmir dispute when he arrives in occupied
Kashmir on Wednesday.
He contradicted reports that he will be meeting the Indian Prime Minister
and said, we have no intentions to meet him during this visit. He stated
this in a media interview in Srinagar.
He said that Kashmir is not an economic but political problem and the people
of Kashmir expect Indian Prime Minister that the political package must
include, the release of prisoners, an end to human rights violations,
allowing Amnesty International, Asia Watch and other human rights groups'
access to Kashmir. He stressed that the Indian Prime Minister needs to take
such steps if the process of the resolution, of Kashmir is to be taken
forward.●
