Troops of Indian forces rape Christian girl in Mizoram

ISLAMABAD: Two troops belonging to the Indian Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School (CIJWS) in Mizoram's Kolasib District raped a 20-year old Christian Mizo girl, reports the Hindustan Times. 

HT reported that four NGOs, including the Young Mizo Association (YMA) and the Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl (MHIP) or Mizo Women Federation, have alleged, the girl, walking home after attending service in the United Penticostal church at Vairengte was assaulted and raped by two army men on the National Highway.

CIJWS soldiers also physically assaulted two boys, accompanying the girl and snatched and threw away the Bible that she was carrying. The girl filed an FIR at the Vairengte police station. The girl has to withdraw the case the next day, under pressure from the Indian army authorities.

Kolasib District Superintendent of Police Lalbiakthanga Khiangte confirmed that the case was not pursued as the victim withdrew the FIR adding that the CIJW School authorities apologized to the victim and her family and paid compensation.

Disgracing of women triggers resentment

In occupied Kashmir, the latest gruesome incidents of disgracing of women by Indian troops have triggered widespread resentment, marked by furious demonstrations.

Protesting against the incidents, the agitated people took to the streets at Lal Chowk in Srinagar Monday. They raised full-throated anti-India and pro-liberation slogans. The troops resorted to excessive tear-gassing and heavy lathi-charge to disperse peaceful demonstrators. Twenty protestors including APHC leaders, Hakeem Abdur Rasheed, Mian Manzoor Ahmad, Bashir Ahmad Andrabi and Farooq Ahmad Tauhadi were arrested.

The All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani visited today Bader Payeen in Handwara where a girl of ten years age and her mother were gang rapped by Indian troops, on Saturday. Addressing thousands of demonstrators, he appealed the world community to wake up to the worst form of state terrorism in occupied Kashmir.

The Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Muhammad Yaseen Malik also visited the spot and participated in the demonstrations. Similar protests were staged at Mattan in Islamabad which were led by APHC leader Sheikh Abdul Aziz. Addressing protestors he said, the occupation authorities have arrested thrity people who are being forced to change their statements about disgracing of a woman by troops in the area.●
