Rawalpindi: Traffic signals on Murree Road not coordinated
Pakistan Times National News Desk

RAWALPINDI: The flow of traffic on many roads in the city has become a nightmare for the commuters as many traffic signals are out of order or not coordinated to ensure smooth flow of traffic.

While Committee chowk Underpass has been constructed with a hefty amount of Rs 32 million, the flow of traffic on Murree road remains jammed at many places.

The remaining work along the underpass is in progress which the Tehsil Municipal Officer TMO Khawaja Javed Latif claims will be completed in the next few weeks not months.

It has been observed that traffic signals between Marir Chowk and Liaqat Bagh are not coordinated which is hampering the smooth flow of heavy traffic.

Usman a resident of the area said "one wonders why after spending millions, traffic remains choked and people are stuck up in traffic Jams".

Similarly Naz cinema crossing and Rawal Road signals are not coordinated to ensure constant flow of traffic.

Confession with Assurance

When asked the TMO admitted that many signals are not in proper working order neither coordinated, but assured to rectify the problem.

Shafiq, a resident of Satellite Town said it is strange that after a long wait at Chandni Chowk, the motorists get stuck up at Rawal Road crossing, most of the time blocking flow of traffic at the chowk, because two signals are not coordinated.

Amir who commutes to Islamabad daily complained that if only the signals from Chandi Chowk upto Stadium Road are made "Green Wave" a big problem of the daily commuters could be solved to a great extent.

Islamabad Highway

Meanwhile the police have been urged to also allow right turn for traffic in the second lane coming from Rawalpindi at Zero Point. There is already a single lane exlusively for right turn and allowing the other lane to turn as well will greatly improve the flow of traffic on the busy Islamabad Highway.

Moreover these vehicles do not impede, in any way, the rest of the traffic.

The people have urged CDA, RCB and TMA to help resolve the problems of the commuters who daily undergo mental torture and tension due to agonising traffic mess because of many of their failings.●
