MoU signed to declare Lahore, Glasgow 'Twin Cities'

LAHORE: Lahore and Scottish town of Glasgow were declared twin cities at a ceremony held at Jinnah Hall here Tuesday evening.

Hanzala Malik, Chairman Development Committee of Glasgow and leader of the visiting delegation and Nazim City District Government Lahore, Mian Amir Mahmood signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect.

The signing ceremony was attended among others by T. Harrigan, A. Ramsay, Shaukat Butt, S. Inch, Ian Galbraith, G. Peterson, A.B. Nelson, A. McCluskey, Neil Galbraith and Ale Malik and senior officials of Lahore District government.

Speaking on the occasion, City District government Nazim, Mian Amir Mahmood hoped that the English town of Glasgow and Punjab capital would cooperate with each other in the process of development besides cultural exchanges.

"Lahore has been declared twin of different world cities in the past. But it remained restricted to signing ceremonies and installation of plaques," he regretted.

He said that the city governments of both Glasgow and Lahore would cooperate with each other especially in the training of officials from police, firebrigade, solid waste management and environment," Mian Amir said.

Hanzala Malik

Leader of Glasgow delegation Hanzala Malik said that people of Pakistan were talented and had enough knowledge about the latest technology.

"We will seek cooperation from Pakistan whenever and whereever needed," he added.

He said that the school adoption by NGOs scheme will be followed in Glasgow as it was a best form of public-private partnership.●
