Pakistan Times Kashmir Desk

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan International Human Rights Organisation conferred posthumous award on late Aasia Jilani who was martyred by Indian secret agencies in an explosion at Handwara in occupied Kashmir while she was visiting the area to observe the polling in Indian Parliamentary elections early this year.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the award was conferred at an impressive ceremony held at national Library's auditorium here.

The award in the form of a shield was given by former Foreign Secretary, Akram Zaki to Convenor All parties Hurriyat Conference, Azad Kashmir Chapter, Muhammad Farooq Rehmani who received it on behalf of late Aasia Jilani. Farooq Rehmani expressed gratitude to Pakistan International Human Rights Organisation for this gesture.

Aasia Jilani was an enlightened and highly qualified human rights activist hailing from Srinagar who got brutally murdered by the Indian agencies. Allah had bestowed upon her great qualities and spirit of working for supreme human values.

After receiving the shield APHC Convenor, Farooq Rehman, in an interview with Al-Arabia T.V. Channel said that situation in occupied Kashmir was worst from the point of view of human rights. India, he said, was engaged in genocide of Kashmiris besides molesting their women in blatant violation of International Human Rights Charter.●
