Overhead pedestrian bridges
ignored by public in Rawalpindi RAWALPINDI: The general public is averse to use the four overhead pedestrian bridges which were constructed for their safety on the city's busiest Murree Road. An overhead bridge is the safest place for the pedestrians to cross a road but generally people ignore it which results in fatal accidents. Even educated people for some reason ignore to use these bridges to cross the Murree Road. Often it has been observed that people cross the road through the broken fences especially near the Rawalpindi General Hospital and at Faizabad creating hazards for the motorists, who have to apply emergency brakes. "Instead of building overhead bridges at various places, underpasses should have been constructed which are more convenient to the pedestrians, as these have smaller number of stairs," said Abdul Rauf, an old man. Farooq Alam a resident of Rawalpindi said that he does not use the overhead bridges because he thought it was a waste of time to climb all the stairs and then come down on the other side of the road.● |
