Kamber incident: Eight police officials
suspended in Sindh

LARKANA: An FIR was lodged
in the Kamber incident on Saturday on a complaint of one Ghulam Umer Magsi.
Four people were killed by the alleged firing of the Kamber police on
protesters on Friday.
Eight officials of the Larkana district police nominated in the FIR have
been suspended by DIG Police (Operations) Sukkur Police Region Muhammad
Ramzan Channa.
They are DSP Kamber Syed
Sahib Shah, DSP Saddar Larkana Ghulam Abbas Gadhi, SHO Kamber Police Station
Habibullah Abro, SHO Taluka Police Station Larkana Ali Raza Shah, SHO
Mahotta Ashraf Lashari, SHO Shahdadkot Police Station Hakeem Bullo, SHO Mahi
Makool Police Station Fakhruddin Rashidi and ASI of Kamber Police Station
Khadim Magsi, besides 60 police constables.
The bereaved families had refused to bury the dead unless a report is lodged
against the police officials.
Seven-day mourning
On the other hand, a seven-day mourning has been announced in Kamber, while
the entire Kamber city is closed to mourn the deaths of four citizens.
Meanwhile, on the special directives of Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam
Rahim, a six-member high-level committee flew into Larkana from Karachi in a
special plane late on Friday night in order to address the grievances of the
people of Kamber.
The committee visited the persons injured in the Kamber incident at the CMC
Hospital and enquired about their health. Four citizens of Kamber were
killed and several others injured in this incident.
The committee, headed by Sindh Minister for Revenue Imtiaz Ahmed Shaikh,
includes Minister for Irrigation & Power Nadir Akmal Leghari, Adviser to CM
Sultan Ahmed Khuhawer, MPA Haji Altaf Hussain Unnar, Pervaiz Ahmed Pechuhu
and Akbar Shah Rashdi.
Imtiaz Shaikh said Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim had taken a serious note of the
incident. He said this was a tragic incident.
The committee visited the residence of Nawab Shabbir Ahmed Chandio in Kamber,
where it had five-hour long talks with Nawab Shabbir, Taluka Nazim Kamber
Sardar Khan Chandio, notables and elected representatives late on Friday
night.
Compensation
Talking to a group of reporters in Kamber in the wee hours of Saturday,
Imtiaz said that as a result of negotiations with Nawab Shabbir, Taluka
Nazim Kamber, notables and elected representatives it was decided that an
amount of Rs 0.2 million would be given as compensation to each bereaved
family by the Sindh government as well as one government job would also be
provided to each victim family.
He said the Sindh government would provide free treatment to the injured
persons in Larkana and Karachi hospitals.
The minister said a judicial inquiry would be conducted under the
supervision of the district & sessions judge Larkana. The persons involved
in the Kamber incident would be punished according to law if found guilty as
well as FIRs would be lodged against them, he said.
He said the chief minister would also visit Kamber to condole with the
members of the bereaved families. Imtiaz added that the people of Kamber and
Shahdadkot were brothers and hoped they would live like brothers and a
peaceful atmosphere would be created in the larger interest of the people of
the area.
The minister said the remaining problems of the district would be solved at
a meeting scheduled to be held in Karachi under the chairmanship of the
chief minister.
DIG (Operations) Sukkur Police Region Muhammad Ramzan Channa, District
Coordination Officer (DCO) Larkana Abdul Razzak Qureshi, DPO Jacobabad Din
Muhammad Baloch and other concerned officers and notables were also
present.●
