No danger to Pakistan's coastal areas: DG Met
Pakistan Times National News Desk

ISLAMABAD: Director General Met office, Qamar-ul-Zaman Chaudhry has said that Pakistani coastal areas are safe from the affects of the devastating earthquake and tidal waves that swept the south-east Asian countries.

He said in an interview that it was a shallow earthquake as its epicenter was ten kilometers deep in the sea.

He said, the tsunami tidal waves were gigantic and caused devastation on a large scale.

Devastative nature

Commenting on the devastative nature of the earthquake, Director Geophysical Centre, Quetta Ziauddin Khan said despite being located in the sensitive range, this area had not suffered from a earthquake since long.

This, he said had accumulated a large quantity of stress energy which became cause of such a massive quake.

The second reason was its epicenter was in sea area, he added.●
