Varan Bus Service calls off strike in Islamabad, Rawalpindi
Pakistan Times National News Desk

RAWALPINDI: The Varan Bus Service called off the strike on Sunday after remaining off road for three days when provided an assurance of security and protection by the district government, Varan administration said in a press statement.

The Varan administration announced the strike on Thursday (January 6) in a press conference by chairperson Uzma Gul, after a bus of the company was attacked by a mob enraged by fatal accidents resulting in the death of four persons, all crushed under the wheels of the company buses.

Assurance

The stalemate in the negotiations between the Varan management and the local administration was broken on the fourth day when the former was provided guarantees of protection as demanded by them.

The local administration had already agreed to deploy police force at four sensitive points of the city the Sixth Road, Faizabad, Committee Chowk, and Rialto Chowk-to ensure protection to the Varan buses and staff.

A press release of the bus company said that the Secretary Rawalpindi Transport Authority [RTA] visited the company bus depot on Sunday and ensured the company staff full protection.●
