Musharraf to elaborate his views on national issues

ISLAMABAD: President Gen Pervez Musharraf is planning to further elaborate his point of view on certain important national issues specially some of those mentioned in his address to the nation on December-30 last.

He may use the national electronic media in this connection to take the nation into confidence.

understands through credible sources that the President may appear in audience attended television programme soon to elucidate the points still agitating the mind of some sections of the society.

Some of the points he may like to explain include importance of the continuity of internal and external policies, Pak-India talks on Kashmir issue, government measures to deal with extremism and terrorism, security and safeguarding of vital national interests, non-participation of the Opposition Leader in the National Security Council (NSC) meetings and the continuing agitation of the Opposition against President’s decision of holding the duel offices.

Musharraf appeals donations for Tsunami victims

President General Pervez on Sunday appealed the masses to donate generously in his relief fund for tsunami victims to enable the government to continue the relief operation.

Talking to Indus News by telephone he said, Pakistan was doing utmost for rehabilitating the tsunami victims. Muslim ummah was also expected to come forward and join the rescue operation being carried out vigorously.

The President appreciated the efforts of all organizations and individuals who are collecting donations for tsunami victims.

Need for early warning System


He urged the countries affected by tsunami to set up early warning system to avoid reoccurrence of the disaster.

"This disaster is an eye opener for the whole world. Besides establishing early warning system, the reaction capabilities should be also be developed to effectively rescue people in future," he added.

The President appreciated the efforts of two Pakistan Navy ships who participated in the relief operation for six days immediately after the Tsunami stuck in Maldives.

Several hundred people were rescued by the PNS Tariq and PNS Badar of Pakistan Navy. They also provided relief goods to the people of Maldives, he added.

The President thanked God for sparing Pakistan from Tsunami disaster.●
