Highway accident in Punjab claims eight lives, causes 25 injuries

JACOBABAD: At least eight people were killed and 25 others injured in a fatal road accident between Kashmore and Roojhan Mazari (Punjab) in the early hours on Thursday.

Condition of 5 of the injured passengers of Coach No.009-BB was stated serious. All of the injured have been admitted to hospitals of Rajanpur, Rahim Yar Khan and D.G. Khan.

Police reports say, when a passenger coach going from Karachi to Dera Ghazi Khan on Indus highway reached near Shamsabad village, it rammed into a goods truck coming from the opposite dirrection as the driver tried to save a motorcyclist.

The Casualties

As a result Qaiser Abbas, son of Mazhar Ali Shah (D.G.Khan), Nazeer Ahmed, son of Abdul Aziz (Karachi), Muhammad Umer, son of Muhammad Taqi (Karachi), Irshad, son of Zafar Ali (Multan), Papoo and Abdullah, son of Ghulamullah
and two other unidentified persons died on the spot while 25 others were injured including the truck driver and cleaner.

Bodies of the coach and the truck were completely destroyed in the accident. People of adjoining area rushed to the spot for rescuing the passengers and afterwards took them to hospitals.

Earlier, all the bodies and injured were brought to Rajanpur District Headquarter Hospital and later the critically injured were shifted to Rahim Yar Khan and D.G.
Khan hospitals.

He said that the dead and the injured had been transported to a hospital, but gave no other details.

Fatal traffic accidents are common in Pakistan, where most roads are poorly maintained and drivers are often not properly trained and frequently disregard rules.

Student dies mysteriously in Islamabad

And a student of a private school was found dead here Thursday in a nullah at H-8 sector, the police spokesman said Thursday.

The father of Tariq Yasin lodged the report with Police that his son, student of class-XI, had been missing for the last few days.

Police contacted his friends to know his whereabout and it was revealed during the preliminary investigation that he had a quarrel with some of his fellows near nullah.

Police have taken into custody his some friends and are investigating, the spokesman said.

"He might have fallen into nullah during fight with friends or killed by them ," he said adding that cause of death could be only established after the autopsy report.●
