ATM: a Myth

THE much-trumpeted “merged” ATM convenience offered to the account holders of different banks is nothing but a myth. I had a traumatic experience with ATMs one morning in December.

I was in urgent need of Rs 5,000 and drove around Karachi for nearly two hours to find an ATM that would allow me to withdraw the amount. But everywhere I went, I kept getting an error message suggesting the link was down (“host SAF transmission error”).

The mental agony my husband and I suffered is beyond words. One-Link and MNET networks are still not merged and customers holding One-Link ATM cards should NOT try accessing MNET-run machines (and vice versa), contrary to the claims of most commercial banks. Can One-Link please explain why its ATMs are not functional 24 hours?●
