Stagnant water hampers motorists from entering Islamabad
Pakistan Times
National News Desk

ISLAMABAD: A number of motorists were trapped under the Faizabad flyover on Sunday night as they dared cross the almost knee deep stagnant water created by the rain and choked sewearge system.

It was only after seeing the stranded motorists in the left lane did the others manage to find their way to the federal capital from the right lane.

"I could never imagine the water would be so deep that a van would break down right in the middle," said Abrar Khan, a van driver, who had to wade through the deep and cold water.

"Where can I look for a mechanic at 9 p.m. to dry the spark plugs and get my car's engine rolling once again," wondered Jehangir Sheikh, whose car would not start despite being pushed out of the water.

Similar stories were narrated by at least eight drivers on the spot, while those who were lucky had left the scene after their vehicles restarted.

The motorists have demanded immediate arrangements be made to clear the stagnant water as Islamabad is forecast to recieve more rains over the next four days.●
