Indian President Kalam suffers shoulder fracture

NEW DELHI (India): Indian President A P J Abdul Kalam on Sunday slipped during his morning walk and suffered a minor fracture in the right shoulder, Spokesman of Rashtrapati Bhavan S M KHan said.

The spokesman further said the President would undergo an operation tomorrow morning.

"The President while taking his routine morning walk today slipped at a spot near herbal garden in Rashtrapati Bhavan and as a consequence got a mild fracture in right shoulder", he added.

"This requires a surgical correction and rest for a few days. The President will be admitted to Research and Referral hospital of Ministry of Defence and the operation will take place tomorrow morning," maintained the spokesman.

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh spoke to President Kalam over phone immediately after hearing the news of his slipping during morning walk and sustaining a minor fracture in the shoulder.

Manmohan Singh wished him speedy recovery, official sources said adding, Singh would be visiting the President at the hospital tomorrow where he would be undergoing a minor operation.●
