Malaysian 'Redtone' launches telecom services in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: A new telecom operator, Redtone Pakistan has launched its operation with an initial investment of US$ 5 million to offer a quality services to the subscribers in Pakistan.

"The company has established network connection points at 10 designated telecommunication regions in Pakistan and is expected to finish construction of all the 14 points of presence by the middle of this year," said Group Managing Director of the Company, Wei Chang Beng.

Talking to mediamen a day after the launching ceremony here on Thursday, he said the company when it comes to service and quality, the Redtone Telecom is number one in Malaysia and is determined to replicate its successes in Pakistan as well.

Wei Chaun Beng said his company's service would be marked by quality and affordability and there would be 35 percent saving on domestic calls and up to 50 percent savings on international calls made through Redtone.

The Group MD said the company's service will definitely become more affordable and accessible in a country where the tele-density penetration is currently low.

Pakistan is an ideal country for investment with its telecom sector offering irresistible business opportunities for the potential investors anywhere in the world.

The Long Distance International (LDI) license awarded by PTA allows the company to offer voice telephone services (namely outbound minutes from and inbound minutes ton Pakistan and domestic long distance calls) as well as date and IT services in Pakistan.

Wei Chang Beng said Redtone Pakistan had also been recently granted a Card Payphone License to provide telephone and fax services via card payphone in the country.

He said Redtone Pakistan was also planning to establish a big capacity of 1,000 digital EIs to receive inbound minutes to Pakistan while its outbound minutes will be served through Redtone's discounted call packages which have proven to be extremely successful in Malaysia.●
