HRCP, Aurat Foundation dispute
PPL report on Dr Shazia
Pakistan
Times National News Desk
KARACHI: Members of Human
Rights Commission of Pakistan HRCP & Aurat Foundation’s fact finding joint
team have disputed Pakistan Petroleum Limited PPL’s report into incident of
rape of Dr. Shazia.
HRCP and Aurat Foundation appreciates that Standing Committee of National
Assembly took note of this ‘inhuman incident. It should hear all sides in
particular version of victim herself in order to reach just and objective
conclusion,” Asma Jahangir and Iqbal Haider HRCP’s governing council members
said in a statement Friday in Karachi.
“Instead of helping victim, PPL in their report published in press, have
held Dr. Shazia responsible for delayed action against culprits. On the
contrary, Dr. Shazia dragged herself to knock at doors of nursing hostel
close to her quarter. She told another lady doctor that she was raped.
“The physical state, torn stained clothes and bruises on Dr. Shazia’s body
spoke by itself. She was asked to replace her torn and stained clothes with
another set of clothes with motive to destroy crucial piece of evidence,”
Asma Jahangir, former HRCP Chairman and Iqbal Haider, former PPP Federal Law
Minister alleged in their statement.
They felt manner in which Dr. Shazia was sent to Asghar Psychiatric Hospital
at Ameer Khusro Road, Karachi, without informing her relations and without
conducting any medical examination, also needs to be investigated.
Before taking Dr. Shazia from Sui to Karachi she was first taken to Kandhkot.
Dr. Shazia’s brother was informed by PPL officials of dacoity at her quarter
and hospitalized in KDA Rest House but gave phone number of Asghar Hospital.
HRCP after making enquiries said PPL compound at Sui is fully guarded and
secured. There is no possibility of outsiders entering compound without
being noticed by Defence Security Guards.
Asma Jahangir and Iqbal Haider urged NA Standing Committee to conduct
investigation by interrogating every person named by Dr. Shazia in her
statements, get expert opinion on security arrangements at PPL compound Sui
and examine each aspect including entry and exit registers.
HRCP governing council members further urged NA Standing Committee to ensure
that all those involved in this heinous crime must be arrested and
prosecuted.●
