Funds for minority sacred sites being allocated in Pakistan
Pakistan Times National News Desk

LAHORE: The government is providing necessary funds for the maintenance of sacred sites and places of worship of non-Muslims. A sum of Rs 1.2 million has been allocated for the repair of Krishna Mandir (temple) on Ravi Road.

This was disclosed by Punjab minister for Religious Affairs and Auqaf, Syed Saeed ul Hassan talking to a 12-member Hindu community delegation at his office Friday, according to a handout.

He said funds would be issued by Evacuee Trust Property Board to fully restore the historical significance of the temple, and remarked that funds amounting Rs 15 million would be spent on the ‘langar khana’ (free food) at the Sikh sacred site of Punja Sahib at Hassanabdal, and Rs 5 million would be spent on the gurdawara’s marble flooring.

He urged minority communities to benefit from government policies and participate whole-heartedly in national development and “Pakistan-iat,” in which they too were stake-holders, and observed that Islam is a religion of tolerance and enjoins security to all non-Muslims.●
