Need for Sporting Spirit
- Ahmad Kashif Saeed, Via email

PAKISTAN Cricket Team returned home after the Australian tour during which the team played three tests and a tri-nation tournament. Although Pakistan lost all three test matches by the huge margin but their performance in one-day tournament was satisfactory. Pakistan beat West Indies twice and Australia once to reach the final, that’s a big achievement.

In the finals despite too many controversial decisions by the Australian Umpires Pakistan played well. In fact after the departure of Shoaib Akhter the Pakistani team performed quite well and one clearly observed the fighting spirit among the players.

We should give credit to Pakistan’s bowlers who restricted Australia under 240 runs in the both finals. There were batting flaws specially in the opening stand but credit goes to Pakistan team.

Although they lost early wickets they fought back and lost the both finals by the margin of just 18 and 31 runs.

Before unnecessarily criticizing the team we should keep in mind the performance of Pakistan Cricket team in World Cup 99 final and qualifying match of World Cup 2003. We should not expect Pakistan team would win every match.●
