200 ancient remains, Budha stupa discovered in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: A 12-member South Korean team of archaeologists have discovered over 200 remains including a stupa of Budha Civilisation at Julian near Taxila, it was officially announced on Wednesday.

Julian Monastery is located some 300 feet high on a hill, about 6 km north-east of Taxila Museum.

The team was working on Julian-II project, located 200 meters from the Julian-I site of the Archaeology Department of Pakistan, since January 28 this year.

After these remarkable discoveries Julian-II was confirmed as preceding Julian-I. It required a further attention in the study of Gandaharan Budhist Monasteries in the Taxila region.

The team found coins from the archaeological excavation dating back to early Kushan Period in the 1st century A.D.

The construction method of the walls of monastery cells and that of the main stupa were from 1-2 centuries A.D.

Julian-II is thus presumed to be a monastery set up one or two centuries ahead of Julian-I, considered to be from 4-5 centuries A.D.

A team of diplomats headed by the ambassador of Republic of Korea, Geon Bou-Guan visited the site of Julian-I and II on Tuesday to apprise the work of the Korean Archaeologist team members.●
