Edible oil import jumps 26 per
cent in Pakistan

KARACHI: Import of edible
oil in Pakistan has jumped by 26.42 per cent in February as compared to the
figures recorded in January.
According to the figures, import of edible oil in February were at 87,290
tonnes as compared to 69,050 tonnes recorded in January.
Due to the increase in the import, prices of edible oil in the local market
were stabled.
During the last week, prices of imported RBD palm oil were stood at Rs1,600
per maund and RBD Palm Olein at Rs1,585 per maund in Karachi while
indigenous Cotton Seed oil was quoted at Rs1,710 per maund, Canola Oil at
Rs1,775 per maund and Rapeseed Oil was at Rs1,940 for 40 kg in Multan.
At the moment, vessels Gertrude is discharging around 6,500 tonnes palm
olien at Karachi port and Siam Sathaporn is discharging 4,800 tonnes palm
olien at Port Qasim.
For Pakistan, vessels Jian She 36 carrying around 9,000 tonnes palm olien,
Chemrose carrying around 4,000 tonnes palm fatty acid, Gemini carrying
around 28,000 tonnes palm olien, Chemroad Vega carrying 8,000 tonnes palm
olien and Docomo carrying 23,000 tonnes palm olien are in the high seas for
Pakistan.
Their expected times of arrival in the Pakistani waters are March 6, 8, 9
and 13 respectively.
In Malaysia, Bow Puma is under loading for around 15,000 tonnes palm olein
and Tirata Niaga for 6,000 tonnes palm olien.●
