Islamabad New City project: NAB plan for refund to scam affectees
Pakistan Times National News Desk

ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) which started refunding money to the Cooperatives scam victims has taken another initiative—to refund the money to the affectees of the Islamabad New City project.

The refund of Rs.13 billion to the affectees of the Cooperatives fraud began with the cheque distribution by the President on July 5, 2001.

The NAB has appealed to the affectees to send their particulars to the NAB office, Rawalpindi Medical College Boys hostel No.3, Rawal Road, Rawalpindi by April 05, 2005.( T, Nos. 5952918 and 5952931).

The New city corruption reference is pending against the former Chief Minister NWFP, Aftab Sherpao, former Deputy Speaker National Assembly Nawaz Khokhar and others for their alleged involvement in Islamabad New City scam of 1995.

An AC of Lahore had already declared co-accused Zahid Shafiq, Director National Housing Authority (NHA) as proclaimed offender.

The new city project was a joint mega housing project of the Capital Development Authority and National Housing Authority in Zone-V of the capital.

The so-called project was launched in 1995 but the millions of rupees paid by the people were embezzled.

The affectees are waiting for the refund of their money since 1995.

This case was transferred from the Lahore AC to the Rawalpindi AC after NAB requested the Lahore High Court to transfer the case since the co-accused and witnesses belong to Islamabad.

The case was pending in Ehtesab Bench till the dismissal of PML(N) government in October, 1999.●
