KOLKATA (India): India
after choosing to bat first, were 344 for six at stumps on the opening day
of the second test against Pakistan at Eden Garden, Kolkata on Wednesday.
Rahul Dravid was the lost player out on 110 runs, V.Sehwag 81, was other
main contributor of Indian innings. While Sachin Tendulkar 52 achieved his
10,000 runs career milestone.
In morning Indian skipper Ganguly won toss and elected to bat first.
India made a runaway start through Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir before Danish
Kaneria made a much needed breakthrough for Pakistan.
Danish Kaneria got out Indian opener Gambhir (29) attempted to sweep across
the line but was trapped plumb in front by a googly.
India lost its second wicket in the post-lunch session of the day when
Sehwag 81miscued a lofted drive off Afridi to be brilliantly caught by
Inzamam-ul-Haq, running backwards at covers.
India lost Tendulkar 52, skipper Sourav Ganguly, Laxman and Dravid’s wickets
in the post tea session. Tendulkar achieved his career milestone of 10000
Test runs, while Dravid 110, completed his 19th century in Tests. He lost
wicket on a Kaneria delivery.
Shahid Afridi, Abdul Razzaq and Danish Kaneria grabbed two wickets each for
Pakistan.
India was playing at 225 for two with Rahul Dravid batting on 70 and
Tendulkar 25 at tea on the opening day of the second Test here.
Dravid raised his 37th Test half-century during the session, while Sachin
Tendulkar (25 not out) was just two runs away from the 10,000 runs career
milestone.
