SC issues notice to head of NWFP Public
Service Commission ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court Thursday issued notice to Chairman of the Public Service Commission (PSC) in NWFP, Abdullah Khan in contempt of court case and for not implementing orders of the Apex court, state-run news agency reports. The Chairman Public Service Commission NWFP, Abdullah Khan also appeared before the Apex court in person on the directive of the Court. According to appeals filed by two candidates for the post of civil judges, namely Farhana Tabbusam and Amina Kiren against the Chairman of PSC for not complying with a court order passed 10 months ago for grant of grace marks. The two candidates were not issued call letters for interview because in the examination held by the PSC NWP the two candidates respectively secured three and four marks less than the required aggregate. The bench comprising Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Khalil-ur-Rehman and Justice M.Javed Buttar adjourned the case for one week after hearing arguments of the counsels who appeared before the court on behalf of the appellants as well as respondents. The Chairman PSC made a request to the court to explain the matter in person which was accepted conditionally. The Court made it clear that a person could appear before the court but his counsel had to withdraw first. Advocate Qazi Muhammad Anwar Advocate represented the PSC chairman. Tariq Mehmood appeared as counsel of the appellants. The NWFP government was represented by advocate M. Bilal.● |
