Gang-rape Victim Mai seeks
Musharraf's help for justice

ISLAMABAD: The rape victim,
Mukhtar Mai, Thursday a ppealed
to President Gen. Pervez Musharraf to intervene in the case for ensuring
provision of justice for her.
At a press conference, organized by the Parliamentarians Commission for
Human Rights (PCHR) here, Mukhtar Mai said that she wished to submit her
appeal in the Supreme Court and expected justice from this high judicial
body.
To a question about leaving Pakistan, she rejecting this impression saying,
“She doesn’t have such intention and hopes justice from the government.”
The rape victim explained that if any country offered her security or
asylum, she would reject it.
Chairman PCHR MNA Riaz Fatyana and Executive Director MNA Kashmala Tariq
briefed the media persons about the current situation of the Mukhtar Mai
case.

Kahsmala Tariq stressed upon the government to put the names of released
accused on the Exit Control List.
She also demanded of the government to make security arrangements for her
and appealed the media to name the victim ‘Mukhtar Bibi’ instead of ‘Mukhtar
Mai’ for the sake of honour and sanctity.
Later, the members of PCHR along with Mukhtar Mai called on Federal Minister
for Interior Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao at his office and discussed the issue
with him.
The Minister assured them to pursue the government for the protection of
women’s rights especially security arrangements for the rape victim.●
