Indian army to keep activists from using Kashmir bus
Pakistan Times Kashmir Desk

NEW DELHI (India): The Indian army said on Friday it would keep Kashmiri freedom-seekers, whom it phrased as 'militants' from using a historic bus across the Line of Control [LoC] in the Himalayan state of Jammu & Kashmir.

The warning came as the cross-LoC service was set to start on April-7 between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad.

Indian army chief general JJ Singh said soldiers in held-Kashmir were preparing plans to prevent travel by wanted 'insurgents' between the two cities onboard the bus.

"We have given a great deal of thought and chalked out necessary preventive measures to check any such misuse," Singh said.

Army engineers are also scouring the route for landmines planted during the first war between India and Pakistan, he added.

"We expect the road to be safe for travel by the due date," Singh said of the 170-kilometre route between Srinagar in India held-Kashmir and Muzaffarabad, the capital of Azad Kashmir.●
