Punjab's ex-Minister Iqbal Khakwani nabbed

MULTAN: Punjab's
ex-Minister and Provincial Vice President of PML-N Hafiz Muhammad Iqbal
Khakwani was arrested from his home by Vehari Police on Monday morning.
“We have arrested Hafiz Iqbal Khakwani under sections 302, 324, 342, 109,
148 and 149 PPC because complainant Altaf Hussain son of Sultan had got
registered an FIR against 17 persons including Iqbal Khakwani for killing
three persons and injuring a number of people following land dispute,” DPO
Vehari Mukhtar Tikka said.
According to details, Salahuddin Khakwani alias Sallu Khan won a case in
High Court on February 24 and got possession of land on March 4,2005 with
the help of Revenue Staff and police.
They also occupied the home constructed on the disputed land and they housed
their servants etc.
A review petition was filed by Sultan in High Court upon this the court
suspended the implementation on the February 24 orders and served a notice
on the Salahuddin etc to join the proceedings on March 31,2005.
After getting the Court orders, Latif son of Ramzan, Gulshan Abbas son of
Zawar Hussain Joiya and Altaf Hussain son of Sultan went to the residence of
Hafiz Iqbal Khakwani located in Multan city and requested him to ask
Salahuddin to vacate possession as per court’s orders and await the Court’s
further order on March 31. But, according to the complaint, he replied that
he had sent armed men to the land and would kill ten persons if it was
inevitable.
On March 19, seventeen people armed with automatic weapons opened the fires
and killed Zafar Ali alias Zafra Nole, Munir Ahmed son of Allah Yar and
Muhammad Iqbal and injured a number of people.●
