At least five killed in held-Kashmir violence

SRINAGAR: In occupied Kashmir, two youth were martyred, one soldier killed and two troops injured in a clash in Sopore town today.

According to reports, military crackdown in the entire area ensued after the clash.

Two other youth were shot dead by troops in a pre-dawn operation in Kalakote area of Rajouri today. It was officially claimed that one of the martyred was a commander of Hizib-ul-Mujhadeen.

The Mattan area of Islamabad district observed a complete strike against the severe thrashing of shopkeepers by occupation troops. Thousands of people attended the funeral of a 10th class student Aijaz Ahmad Dar at Hassanpora in Islamabad. He was shot dead by Indian troops yesterday.

Unidentified armed men abducted three persons from a remote village in Kokernage area of Islamabad district. The abductees identified as Fareed ahmad Gujjar, Farooq Ahmad and Fareed Ahmad were abducted from their houses in village Magam-Sangran in Kokernag, late last night.

Earlier, masked men abducted two teenaged boys Zahoor Ahmad Lone and Nisar Ahmad from their houses at Sogam area in border district of Kupwara. A doctor was also abducted from Banni, in Kathua district.

The Mattan area of Islamabad district observed a complete strike against the severe thrashing of shopkeepers by occupation troops.

Reports said the troops beat up the shopkeepers as the people burst firecrackers after Pakistan defeated India in the test cricket match at Bangalore. Many shopkeepers were injured in the troops' thrashing, reports added.

Thousands of people in Islamabad attended the funeral of a 10th class student Aijaz Ahmad Dar, martyred in Indian troops' firing, the previous day.

Aijaz was busy felling trees with his father when he was hit by Indian troops' bullets. As soon as Aijaz's body reached his native village Hassanpora, thousands of shocked villagers came out crying wildly. His body was laid on a bed and wailing villagers fled past to have a last glimpse of him.

Aijaz was eldest son of his parents and his death caused grief and agony to every one in the village.●
