Model Village
-
Rehana Bokhari, Islamabad

I WISH to draw the attention of the chairman of the Capital Development Authority towards the awful state of the roads, footpaths and sewerage and drainage systems, and the lack of streetlights in Rawal Town, a place that was planned to be a model village.

Rawal Town, where a majority of the residents are media related people, needs urgent attention. Even if it’s not a model village, at least it should look like a place worth living in. It is located close to Islamabad, and is situated in the middle of the Twin Cities. It also provides a link to Chakshahzad, the National Health Laboratories and Banigala. There are more than a thousand houses here, and yet there is no hospital or bank.

Although some wagons ply this route, the residents are forced to wait for hours to commute between Islamabad and Rawalpindi. There should be a proper bus stop for the convenience of those who endure different kinds of weather while waiting for the next wagon to come. Mr Lashari, who earned a great reputation while he was posted as Director General of the Punjab Horticulture Authority in Lahore, must spare some time to visit Rawal Town to see the conditions for himself.●
