Arrangements made for local bodies polls in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar has said that all necessary arrangements for holding forthcoming local government elections in a fair and transparent manner have been made.

Dogar expressed these views here on Thursday during a meeting with Ambassador of Netherlands Marcel Kurpershoek.

The elections to the local government institutions would be conducted in two phases, starting from first week of July, he said. He also informed the ambassador about the local government elections system.

The CEC also briefed him about the election process for national and provincial assemblies and said that electoral rolls, which are basis of ensuring fair elections, have also been updated.

The Dutch envoy appreciated the working of the Election Commission and expressed his desire to see the democratic process in Pakistan further strengthening.

Secretary Election Commission Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad was also present at the meeting.●
