Musharraf to chair Formation Commanders meeting at GHQ

ISLAMABAD: President General Pervez Musharraf will chairPresident General Pervez Musharraf a very important two days Formation Commanders meeting on 25th at the General Headquarters Rawalpindi, reports noted journalist Aroosa Alam for Pakistan Observer.

The two days Conference has an important agenda which also include the demilitarization of Siachen, recent Pak-India joint statement, forthcoming defence budget, internal and external security situation, and matters pertaining to Pakistan armed forces operational preparedness in both conventional and strategic areas. All Corps Commanders, GOCs, PSOs and Major Generals will be attending the marathon sessions on security matters.

The Formation Commanders meeting will be followed by two days promotion board meeting to consider promotions from Lt Col to Col and Col to Brigadiers

While opening the meeting President Musharraf will take his commanders into confidence about his talks with Indian Prime Minister and the background of joint statement which include a number of Kashmir specific CBMs .

Candid Details

He will also gave a candid details of his one on one meeting with Indian Prime Minister which included free and frank talks over various options to resolve Kashmir issue. He will also inform his commanders about the agreement between the two leaders for the early demilitarization of Siachin.

The two days brain storming will also include the new dimensions of country’s security policy. Commanders will brief the meeting about the developments in their areas.

The meeting will certainly review the prevailing situation on borders both Eateran and Western. Matters pertaining to professional and operational preparedness of the forces will also be discussed.

LIC (Low Intensity Conflict) seems to be the main area of concern in these discussions. There is a demand for special equipment’s and training in this very crucial area of preparedness.●
