Pro-India NC charged of betraying Kashmiris' cause

SRINAGAR: In occupied Kashmir, a popular member of pro-India National Conference (NC), Maulvi Iftikhar Hussein Ansari, has parted ways with the party, charging its leadership of betraying Kashmiris' cause.

Addressing a press conference here after his resignation, Ansari said, the priorities of NC are different from what is demanded by the people of occupied Kashmir.

He said, he had written to the party chief, Dr Farooq Abdullah, three months ago that he was not satisfied with the policy of the party, which, he added, should devote itself for the genuine concerns of the people of the occupied territory.

During his press conference, Ansari appreciated Indian and Pakistani leadership for displaying wisdom and showing seriousness in resolving mutual disputes, including Kashmir.

"But let me make it clear that a lasting solution on Kashmir is possible and the ongoing peace process could be taken to its logical conclusion only if and when the people of occupied state are involved in this process," he insisted.●
